Every time i see something having to do with Twilight, without fail, i will skim over it. It's worse when it pops up in my Deviant Watch list, because i feel bad just ignoring something that someone took time to do & upload, & some of it's good, technically. I just don't see the appeal of a book where vampires sparkle & there is essentially nothing negative attached to being one of the undead. It's more like they've essentially become sparkly, bloodsucking Elves; there's very little going on there. Honestly, how is one supposed to take someone seriously when they sparkle?

So this is pretty much brilliant:

twilight by makani

Finally, someone who isn't foaming at the mouth about how supposedly amazing it is!

To further cement my conviction to not read these books, someone in the Deviation cited a little excerpt: "So, I woke up at approximately 6:02am, and I put on my black Converse brand sneakers with the pink laces, my jeans with the tears in the knees and a black tank top, which I decided on instead of my pink kitty one. Then I went into the shower and used shampoo when I washed my hair, but not conditioner because I didn't have enough time..." Then went on to say, "It reads like terrible fan fiction."

Which i agree with. Trying too hard much, author? And apparently a Mary Sue, at that.

"Edward is gorgeous. I must see Edward. I'm thinking about Edward. I don't want to think about Edward. I can't help but think about Edward."

.....My god, that's when you need to get a life. And people like this more than, i don't know, LotR? Humanity is a lost cause even moreso now.

And no, i am not changing my mind, nor am i sorry for not wanting to touch it with a ten foot pole. I will stick to my angsty, realistic vampires & werewolves (the ones that do not sparkle under any circumstances), thank you very much.

The excerpt you cited does read pretty badly. Mary Sues aren't bad, though. I enjoy them. I like to invent a Mary Sue and put her (because I'm a girl) through all the things I fear the most. It actually helps me. Call it therapy. :-)

And by the way, I never sent you my submission for the suitcase stories. Is that still going on (and if so, how do I send it to you), or should I give up?

Blessings!

Ehh, i've read excerpts online & it's really genuinely turned me off to it.

The funny thing is, i've yet to see a flaming comment on any of the two "i-dislike-Twilight" things i've now seen. Most people's reactions, if they like the book, are, "I like it but LMAO that is so true!" It seems they are at least united in their dislike of the main character...

I first heard of Mary Sues when the Lord of the Rings movies first started coming out, & suddenly, apparently, there was an influx of Mary Sues (& Mrs. orlando Blooms) that generally made people feel ill.

....and when i was younger, my writing & stuff sucked even worse than it does now, & i was pretty harshly reviewed, & learned the hard way: Limp stories & Sueish characters are not going to make it. (Yet i still put characters through angst & depression; eheh.) I just think it must needs be balanced out. If no one's ever going to read it, then... fine.

...i know what you mean, though, putting character whoever through stuff. > >

Young writers very rarely have good literature, and even if they are good, they'll cringe when they've learned more. Balance is a good thing, certainly. I'm just saying that Mary Sues can be written to have their downfalls, too. It's a classic epic paradigm: a great hero with a tragic flaw. But I guess then it wouldn't really be a Mary Sue, since Mary Sues tend to be perfect. Hmm . . .

Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm not thinking of Mary Sues at all . . . *is puzzled*

Yeah, i realized what you're talking about isn't a Sue. A Sue is amazing in every aspect & possesses things like powers that nobody should have, & everybody just loves them, their lineage is completely improbable... &c., &c.
